Rabindranath along with Naguib Mahfouz (Egyptian writer and Nobel Laureate) are revered in Cairo for their strong humanitarian essence and both the nations remain dedicated in continuing this historical association. Tagore remains the first literary figure whose portrait adorns the premises of the House of Poetry in Egypt and it is a signal honour to India. In 2016 Egypt observed the 156th birth anniversary of Tagore by organizing a three day long festival of Tagore songs and dance by eminent practitioners in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, Cairo Opera House, Cultural Production Sector, Dancers’ Guild and the Indian Community Association in Egypt.
