Nawroz or Navroz marks the New Yearfor ethnic Iranians and is celebrated by several ethno-religious communities across the world. In India Zoroastrian Parsees celebrate Nawroz twice a year: one in common with their Iranian brethren on the Spring Equinox i.e in March also known as Fasli New Year and the other, on a day in July/August depending upon whether they follow the Kadmi or Shahenshahi calendar. After visiting the Fire temple, the Parsees celebrate by visiting friends and family, exchanging gifts and sharing cuisine. Emperor Akbar and Shahjahan were ardent patrons of this ancient festival.
