This report titled “Women’s Colleges in India as Catalysts for Sustainable Development and Gender Equity” is the outcome of a collaborative research initiative led by Loreto College, Kolkata, in partnership with Asia in Global Affairs (AiGA) and supported by the Xavier Board of Higher Education. The project brought together five prominent women’s colleges across diverse Indian regions—Loreto College (Kolkata), Jesus and Mary College (New Delhi), Patna Women’s College, Nirmala College (Ranchi), and Jyoti Nivas College (Bengaluru)—to assess their roles in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on gender equity, quality education, and economic growth. Anchored in a feminist research methodology, the study employed surveys, comparative case analyses, and policy reviews to examine how these institutions foster women’s leadership, promote sustainability, and challenge structural inequities. Findings highlight both institutional strengths—such as leadership training, gender-sensitive pedagogy, and community outreach—as well as areas for improvement, notably in career readiness and sustainability engagement. This collaborative research reaffirms the transformative impact of women’s colleges in India and their enduring relevance in shaping a more equitable and sustainable future.
